Years K - 6 (Primary)

St Gabriels 29March2021 16

Kindergarten to Year 6 sees children through enormous developmental changes. St Gabriel’s School acknowledges these changes through offering transition support into Kindergarten, into Mainstream schools for some children, into the older years of primary and then into High School. Primary students follow the NESA K-6 Primary Curriculum, differentiated to meet their individual needs and learning profiles. Low staff to student classroom ratios ensure that when students are ready, reading, writing and mathematics happen for all of our children.

Class sizes are small (8-10 students) and are staffed by a highly skilled teacher and learning support officer who engage in continuous professional education to ensure they are using the latest pedagogy and evidence based practices to ensure high quality outcomes are achieved by all students.

Student study the following subjects:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science and Technology
  • History
  • Geography
  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE)
  • Creative Arts – Art and Music

Students also study the following school based courses:

  • Pastoral Care

Students have a break for recess and lunch, each classroom develop their own timetable and use fitness and exercise regularly for students to have breaks. Students attend the core subjects in their classroom however move to a specialised music and art room and kitchen for cooking based activities.

Students have access to technology – interactive whiteboards in each classroom, desktops and each child has an iPad. All technology is integrated into all teaching and learning activities and students are taught how to safely and wisely use technology in their day to day lives.

They participate in weekly Assemblies, excursions, art and music competitions, incursions, community events such as Book Week, Jump Rope for Heart, Athletics’ Carnivals, Family run discos, and corporate fundraisers.
