Social Skills

The skills to interact socially and appropriately with other people form the basis of relationships with others - at home, at school and in the wider community.

At St Gabriel's we recognise the importance of the social and emotional development of our students and explicity teach social skills and set up our environment to maximise social learning.

Volunteers work as ‘Play Partners' to children, other classes from mainstream settings interact through curriculum projects with our children, offering opportunities to show leadership and develop a positive sense of self . Recognition of good social skills underpins every day learning at St Gabriel's.

Through emphasis on positive behaviour approaches, children develop in their awareness of themselves and of others and develop empathy and consideration for other people as they work positively towards independent learning and living.
