Stars align for St. Gabriel’s School

A host of TV and sporting stars shone at Castle Hill RSL on Friday 10th May 2013 in a night of celebrity banter, ‘Gift of the Gab’, in aid of raising funds for St. Gabriel’s, a school for children with diverse learning needs.

The evening’s MC, Underbelly’s Jason Montgomery, lead the way though discussions ranging from Lynne McGranger’s calamities in her short-lived teaching career, to an unorthodox recital of Cinderella by Paul Wade and whether Bacon from Bondi Rescue has a girlfriend (he does).

But as laughter spread, raffles were won and guests celebrated their auction wins, the room was raising $60,000 of vital funds for something far from light-hearted – providing for children with disability the quality educational resources that they deserve.

St. Gabriel’s School caters for children with a range of disabilities including hearing impairment, intellectual disability and autism. The school prides itself on being a happy place where students are challenged, valued and respected. Its specialist programs, however, are costly and the school relies heavily on fundraising events like ‘Gift of the Gab’ to support the ongoing development of its specialist programs.

“The involvement we’ve had from the community has been outstanding and obviously we are thrilled with the amount raised from the evening” says Kathy Freeman, Principal, “We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our children than through laughter, they make us smile every day”.
